GREENVILLE, S.C. - SCaroNews -- Winter in South Carolina runs short: It's very cold for two months, add a few weeks on either end, and your garage in The Carolinas never get the forced seasonal reset that a Pennsylvania garage gets. Beach chairs from Labor Day are still leaning against the drywall in January, and the box of Christmas lights ends up wedged in behind them.
Then a hard freeze comes through. Winter brings its own inventory too. If you burn firewood it needs somewhere dry, space heaters come back out, and the leaf blower gets more use in November and December than any other stretch of the year because the oaks around here drop late. None of it has anywhere to go if the summer gear never left. Pool noodles do not need prime shelf space in December.
Pests are the reason nobody thinks about until it becomes one. Mice and palmetto bugs go looking for somewhere warm when the temperature drops, and a garage full of paper bags and open bins gives them cover to work with. Sealed cabinets and lidded containers close off most of the easy entry points.

April fills with yard work. By May it is too hot to want to be out there.
