None of it has anywhere to go if the summer gear never left. Pool noodles do not need prime shelf space in December.
Pests are the reason nobody thinks about until it becomes one. Mice and palmetto bugs go looking for somewhere warm when the temperature drops, and a garage full of paper bags and open bins gives them cover to work with. Sealed cabinets and lidded containers close off most of the easy entry points.
