Practical lessons help adults use AI as a collaborator, build useful skills, and exercise their own judgment.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - SCaroNews -- Big Lever Institute Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, today announced the public opening of its online learning community, offering always-free practical AI education for adult learners. The programming helps people move from a first conversation with an AI assistant to useful work they can check, improve, and apply in their own lives and organizations.
"AI gives people a collaborator and thought partner they can ask questions of and work through ideas with," said Myers, founder and chair of Big Lever Institute and managing director of Big Lever Ventures. "We want more people to have a fair chance at the opportunities AI is creating. Access to practical education shouldn't depend on someone's background, network, or ability to pay for a course."
Learners can begin with AI Basics, which covers choosing an assistant, asking useful questions, providing context, working with files and instructions, and organizing continuing work. Practical exercises include improving a résumé, practicing an interview, preparing reusable emails, turning notes into a presentation, and building a small personal tool.

Meet Levi: An AI Learning Companion
Learners don't have to navigate the curriculum alone. Levi, the Institute's AI learning companion, introduces two free AI guides: Learning Path helps learners choose lessons around their goals, while Guide Me supports them through exercises using Socratic questioning—helping them reason through a problem rather than simply supplying an answer.
The lessons emphasize a guided conversation: learners can ask an assistant to explain unfamiliar ideas, help frame a task, and work through a problem one question at a time. They also practice checking factual claims, questioning proposed approaches, choosing corrections, and keeping useful results. No prior AI experience, coding background, or paid AI subscription is required to begin. Some optional tools and capabilities may depend on the learner's chosen provider and plan.
Institute programming is always free for participants. Educators and community leaders can also explore BLI for Educators, a public repository with reusable educational materials, worked adaptations, and notes on the approach to reviewing lessons. Its licensing and reuse instructions are included in the repository.
