ROCK HILL, S.C. - SCaroNews -- Rock Hill, SC – United International Ministries (UIM), a nonprofit serving Rock Hill, Chester, and Lancaster counties, has expanded its leadership team and community outreach to better serve international teachers and Winthrop University students.

With ongoing teacher shortages across the U.S., districts are increasingly hiring international teachers through cultural exchange visa programs. These teachers arrive eager to serve but often lack resources and relationships. UIM provides biblical hospitality and practical support—such as furniture, transportation, and community connection—to help them transition and thrive.

"Our community has a unique opportunity to live on mission locally," says Karin Furrh, UIM's newly appointed Executive Director. "Each year, God brings international teachers and students to our doorstep. We're here to make sure they're seen, supported, and welcomed through the love of Christ."

UIM supports two key groups:
  • International Teachers need furniture, transportation help, and spiritual encouragement.
  • International Students need connection—to American families, fellow students, and a community of faith. UIM pairs them with Friendship Partners—local Christian families who provide mentorship and support.

Through its recent leadership restructuring, UIM is strengthening its outreach:
  • Karin Furrh, Executive Director – Strategic leadership, partnerships, and fundraising
  • Ginger Duncan, Student Engagement Ambassador – Connects students with Christian families and peers
  • Mandy Deller, Teacher Engagement Coordinator – Builds teacher relationships through events and community volunteers
  • Stephanie Sutton, Teacher Logistics Coordinator – Oversees furniture donations and transportation

"This ministry is meeting an essential need in our community," says Jeff Lorow, UIM Board President. "We're excited to grow and see more people join us in welcoming the nations."
