- SC Optometric Physicians Association offers scholarship to future doctors of optometry
COLUMBIA, S.C. - SCaroNews -- The South Carolina Optometric Physicians Association (SCOPA) announced that applications are now open for the 2026 Student Scholarship Program, which supports South Carolina students pursuing careers as Doctors of Optometry. Since 2010, SCOPA has awarded more than $23,000 in scholarships to 14 aspiring Doctors of Optometry committed to advancing vision care across the state.
Applications and all supporting materials must be submitted by May 30, 2026.
The scholarship program is open to first- through fourth-year optometry students enrolled full-time at an accredited school or College of Optometry. Eligible applicants must either be related to a SCOPA member, be a South Carolina resident, or have received a South Carolina contract seat. Applicants are also required to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and remain in good academic standing.
SCOPA has notified eligible schools with contracted seats for South Carolina residents, including:
Scholarship recipients are selected annually by the SCOPA Board of Directors following a comprehensive review of academic performance, references, commitment to the profession, and other application criteria. Recipients will be notified no later than June 30, 2026.

In addition to scholarship opportunities, SCOPA supports optometry students through complimentary registration to its Annual Meeting and invitations to participate in SCOPA events throughout the year. These opportunities provide valuable access to networking, continuing education, mentorship, and professional development within South Carolina's optometric community.
