PICKENS, S.C. - SCaroNews -- Pickens County Habitat for Humanity is honored to announce a transformative gift from Henry and Barbara Crotwell, along with Henry's sister-in-law, Lila Crotwell: the donation of nearly two acres of land on the north side of Front Street in Liberty. Given in memory of Philip and Jeanette Crotwell, and in tribute to their son, Phil Crotwell, this act of generosity reflects a deep commitment to community and legacy.

The property, which has been in the Crotwell family for generations, will now be the future site of affordable homes built in partnership with local families through PCHFH's homeownership program. This generous gift will enable more families to achieve stability and independence through affordable housing.

Philip and Jeanette Crotwell called Liberty home for decades. Philip served as principal of Liberty High School for more than 20 years, while Jeanette dedicated 30 years as a teacher and librarian. Their deep ties to the town and its people make this land donation especially meaningful.

"It brings us peace to know this land will become a blessing for another family, just as it was for ours," shared Hank Crotwell.

Located in the heart of Liberty, the 1.99-acre lot is well-positioned for future Habitat home construction. As with all Habitat projects, the homes built here will be made possible through a combination of volunteer labor, community funding, and the dedication of partner families who invest their own "sweat equity."

"This donation does more than provide land. It opens the door to stability, opportunity, and a brighter future for families already living and working in Pickens County," said Tamara Dourney, Executive Director of Pickens County Habitat for Humanity. "It's an amazing legacy for the Crotwell family to bequeath to the community, and we are honored to help carry that legacy forward by transforming this gift into homes filled with hope and love."

Since 1981, Pickens County Habitat for Humanity has constructed or rehabilitated over 100 homes, providing more than 300 individuals with safe, decent, and affordable housing. The Crotwell family's donation stands as a powerful example of how one act of giving can lay the foundation for generations of impact.
